History, good to know…
Crozant is situated on a rocky plateau above the confluence of the Creuse and Sedelle rivers. The ruins of Crozant have a centuries-old history. Already in the Middle Ages, the strategic importance of this place was such, that a huge defence fort was built. Thanks to this fortress, of which only a ruin remains, Crozant got its nickname of ‘key to the Limousin’.
In the area, you will find many rivers and streams flowing into numerous lakes. Many painters, impressed by the beauty of the landscape, have settled in and around Crozant. The famous impressionist painter Armand Guillaumin. Claude Monet has also captured the landscape in the vicinity (Fresselines) on canvas.
The historic monument, the Ruins of Crozant, can be visited on foot.
